Even if not a requirement, choosing a name that goes with your character’s genre or one of her 2~3 realms of influence is half the fun within itself! Not to mention, with all the possible name meanings, this should not be a task at all.
At the same time, names should not be so horribly obvious. We do not need any players trying to give their Sailor J-Pop a character name meaning relevant to one of her realms of influence then coming up with “Rainbow.” Choose a name like name “Iris” instead and explain why you chose this, we will understand and prefer this over the oh-so-obvious.
First names used as last names are a really big pet peeve of mine and your application may for it, so watch out! A perfect example of this is Ula Ambra Gemma. Gemma is not even a last name! Try to pick out real last names, sometimes you may even be able to find one relevant to your senshi’s genre or realms. We really urge that prospective players have meaningful first names that relate to their senshi but real last names.
Another way to go wrong on something as mere as a character’s name is making an exotic first name but popular last name or vice-versa. Amy Solange Devmani does not work nor does Kalonice Jones. When parents name their children, the names chosen are generally decided upon because they sounded best with the last name. Parents too should have names that fit their nationality and time; I do not think the name Ashton for a woman was popular in the ‘50s. So try names like Linda and Susan for your character’s parents versus something totally abstract.
Do not forget to tell us the meaning of your character’s full name. Middle names are optional but it does not hurt to add one in. We love applicants who take the time to do some fun research on names that would best suit their character. Not to mention, it is my personal favorite part of the application because the name of your character sometimes determines everything else about the person, just by the sound of his or her name. A character named Gisella will probably not be a butch, tomboy but a Jessica “Jessie” could most certainly be! Of course, there will always be the rare exceptions to these guidelines, but they should be followed 99% of the time. Get my drift? Good! 8D
